How It Works + Client Resources

How the Remote Tax Preparation Process Works

Our goal is to make the handoff from the referring professional to PG Tax Services simple while giving the client personal attention and a clear understanding of what is needed.

Remote tax preparation process

A clear seven-step process

01

Referral Received

An attorney or other professional refers a client who may need current or prior-year income tax returns prepared. Any known court, filing, or other time-sensitive deadline should be identified with the referral.

02

Secure Document Collection

PG Tax Services contacts the referred client and provides access to a secure electronic document-sharing process. The client is asked to identify the tax years that need attention and provide available tax documents along with a copy of the most recently filed tax return, if available. Documents can be uploaded from a computer, tablet, or smartphone, and many documents can be photographed and uploaded directly from a mobile device, so a scanner is not required.

03

Initial 30-Minute Video Conference

After the initial information is received, we schedule a 30-minute video conference to better understand the client’s filing history, how the client previously filed, income sources, employment or self-employment, business activity when applicable, missing records, and the specific returns that may need to be prepared. The conference can be conducted in English or with Spanish-language assistance when needed.

04

Determine the Scope

After reviewing the available information and speaking with the client, PG Tax Services identifies the returns and additional records needed to proceed. The scope of the tax preparation engagement and applicable fees can then be discussed before preparation moves forward.

05

Prepare the Returns

Once the necessary information has been received and the engagement is accepted, PG Tax Services prepares the applicable federal income tax returns through a remote electronic process using professional tax preparation software.

06

Signatures, Filing & Completion

Required signatures and electronic filing are handled electronically when available. If a return must be filed by mail, the completed return and applicable filing instructions can be provided to the client for mailing.

07

Professional Status Updates

With the taxpayer’s authorization, the referring professional can be kept informed of meaningful milestones, including client contact, receipt of documents, preparation status, and completion or delivery of the applicable returns.
